I was recently asked when am I going to stop going to school and reading countless books on Programming. My answer: Never.
People tend to train their kids from an early age that education is a form of punishment: "Go do your homework! I don't want you down here until you finish reading that book." Subconsciously, the mind develops to associate reading and education as negative.
Growing up your parents will say, "you can buy yourself whatever you want as soon as you complete school and get a job." Again, treating school like an obstacle towards some goal.
Most people view school as a burden and I think we need to change that. Why not treat it like a sport! After all, you are exercising your mind. Kids (whose parents don't force them to play so that they can live their dreams through their children) for the most part really enjoy playing a sport. I know I did. I played soccer, handball, football, tennis, etc. Practice is an hour or two at least and usually every day.
I know people who are in their 50's and still play some sort of sport as often as they can (usually a couple of time per week). i.e. my dad. He used to play soccer twice per week but has downgraded to every Sunday (and yes he's in his 50's). Games usually last a couple of hours; when he's home he watches soccer games every single day. Why? Because he truly enjoys it.
So what's the difference between going to school for a couple of days per week (if you take 1 college class per semester) and playing an organized sport?
The only difference, as was mentioned earlier, is that people view school like an obstacle and not as something they can, and should, take advantage of for the rest of their lives.
